Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (TASMC) hosted an IVF and Stem Cell event on July 19th, 2014, with Dr. Dalit Ben-Yosef, the director of both the IVF lab and the PGD-Stem Cell lab, at TASMC, and Karin Lachmi, Ph.D., Managing Director, Western Region, TASMC US.

Dr. Ben-Yosef gave an engaging talk, and shared the exciting research and clinical results that she has been working on at the PGD-Stem Cell lab of TASMC’s IVF unit. Dr. Ben-Yosef demonstrated a unique human-based research model, which provides relevant and important results to better understand the development of severe genetic diseases like inherited colon cancer and inherited mental retardation (Fragile-X).In addition to presenting her cutting-edge research, Dr. Ben-Yosef highlighted the benefits of her group’s new lab facilities, her dedicated and professional researchers, and the excellent reputation and worldwide recognition her group’s work has received.
In an effort to accelerate the push towards a better understanding of the development of severe genetic diseases, we were able to interest donors in helping to advance Dr. Ben-Yosef’s research, through their funding of Ph.D. student scholarships and by them contributing towards the procurement of molecular reagents. We see this as a unique opportunity to contribute towards world-leading IVF-Stem Cell research that is being conducted in Israel.

Dr. Ben-Yosef is also a senior lecturer at the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, Sackler Medical School, at Tel-Aviv University. Dr. Ben-Yosef has published 47 original scientific articles relating to different aspects of IVF, human embryonic development, genetic disorders and human embryonic stem cells.

Dr. Ben-Yosef’s laboratories include a clinical IVF lab, a molecular PGD (Preimplantation Genetic  Diagnosis) lab and a stem cell research lab. Annually, the IVF-PGD lab performs more than 1,000 IVF-ICSI cycles, including all of the state of the ART procedures. In addition, the team performs more than 200 PGD cycles per year, while diagnosing more than 100 different mutations for severe genetic disorders. Recently, Dr. Ben-Yosef was the PI of 9 grants, supported by the Israel Science Foundation, Israel Ministry of Health, National Fragile X Foundation, TEVA and others.
