Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center's BMT team is developing new transplantation approaches that are designed to utilize reduced-intensity regimens, and techniques to carry out "mini" transplants. We also use cellular immunotherapy treatments that employ donor immune cells for relapsed or residual diseases.
We make it a priority to stay in touch with all the new research being carried on in the area of stem cell and bone marrow transplantation so that we can provide the highest level of medical care.
The Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation unit within the Hematology Division
of the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center is nationally recognized as a leading stem cell transplant center. It has an outstanding reputation and an excellent track record of successful outcomes
We perform autologous (self-donated) and allogeneic (donated) stem cell transplantation (BMT) in order to treat and support patients with malignant diseases, such as acute and chronic leukemia, and diseases which result in bone marrow failure, like aplastic anemia, and other immune system or genetic diseases.
Our unit is part of the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center's Hematology Division, which provides a full range of facilities for both hospitalized patients and ambulatory out-patients. Click here for more information about the Hematology division.
The Transplantation Process
We use the most innovative procedure methods in order to minimize complications and maximize cure rates. Every patient receives an individual tailored care plan, designed to give them the best and most appropriate treatment possible. Transplants are performed in specially equipped rooms with air filtration systems and positive air pressure facilities, in order to prevent infections.
Following the transplant, and even after they return home, both the patient and the donor remain under close extended supervision and follow-up by the BMT clinical team.

Using our unique multi-disciplinary approach, we perform autologous (self-donated) and allogeneic (donated) stem cell transplants (BMT) to treat and support our pediatric patients.
We focus on helping each patient and their family to deal with the challenges of BMT treatment, by providing a supportive and child-friendly environment and planning a treatment program that enhances their quality of life.
Israel’s Leading Pediatric BMT Center
In the Pediatric Hemato-oncology department, we specialize in helping infants, children, and young patients for whom bone marrow transplant may provide curative therapy, including patients suffering from malignant diseases, immuno-deficiencies, and non-malignant disorders.
We are recognized as a center of excellence and our Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit is recognized by the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) as an international center for bone marrow transplantations of all types.
The bone marrow transplantations are performed in friendly and well-equipped rooms which not only have special filters and positive air pressure facilities to prevent infection, but are also specially designed to accommodate the unique needs of children. All of the department’s facilities are designed to make our young patients’ stay more comfortable. We have a play area, cozy seating corners, computers, games, videos, and other child-friendly entertainment.
Complex diagnostic tests such as spinal taps are performed with as little pain as possible with the help of the Tel Aviv Medical Center’s Dream Service – a special pediatric service that helps children to undergo treatment and testing under sedation. We carry out all necessary blood tests on-site so that results can be processed as quickly as possible, to reduce the stress of waiting for answers.
We plan clinic visits and day hospitalization schedules for each patient so that they can also spend time outside the hospital and live as normal a life as possible during their treatment. Similarly, many of our follow-up patients are treated at the day hospital facility, which enables them to leave the hospital and spend time with their family in the afternoons.
Every patient is cared for by a cohesive team of expert doctors, specialist nurses, trained educators and psychologists. We aim to provide full assistance to our patients and their accompanying family members in their spoken language, including medical translation services. Everything is done to ensure that you and your child are fully supported throughout the process in a friendly, comfortable and warm environment, with input from expert clinical, educational, and psychosocial staff.
As your partners in the on-going care of your child, our staff will support and advise you throughout the process, helping to achieve a total recovery, and giving you complete peace of mind.
