The Genetics Institute in the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center offers genetics clinics, multidisciplinary clinics, consultation services, and laboratory testing.
Broad spectrum of outpatient genetics services
Patients of the genetics and multidisciplinary clinics receive:
- Examination and counseling for children with late or delayed development, mental impairment or congenital malformations
- Consultation to families on hereditary diseases
- Pre-conceptual and prenatal counseling on diagnosis of congenital fetal abnormalities and inherited diseases
- Consultation on repeated miscarriages and infertility
- Consultation on familial cancer (breast, ovarian and others)
- Consultation on genetic screening tests
Consultation to all hospital departments
The staff of the Genetics Institute provides consultation services to other departments of the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center for the benefit of their patients:
- Consultation services to the Neonatal Department and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit after the birth of babies with congenital defects
- Consultation to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology regarding congenital fetal defects and termination of pregnancy
- Consultation to the Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgical and Pediatric Orthopedics Departments during hospitalization
- Consultation to other departments (neurological, internal medicine) as needed
Specialized genetics laboratory
In the Genetics Laboratory of the Genetics Institute, patients are offered:
- Molecular testing - screening tests for common genetic diseases (such as fragile X, Tay-Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis and others), testing for muscular dystrophies and muscular atrophies, various forms of hereditary cancer (such as breast, ovaries, pancreas, colon, and others)
- Cytogenetic tests - chromosomal analysis of amniocentesis and chorionic villus samples, chromosomal testing for children with congenital anomalies or developmental delays), couples with infertility and recurrent miscarriages, cytogenetics for specific cancers, such as hematological and bone/soft tissue cancers, FISH tests, and others
