Objective
The objective of The Israeli Shoulder Institute Shoulder Fellowship is to train board-eligible or board-certified orthopaedic surgeons in the details of physical examination, diagnostic testing, conservative care, and surgery for disorders of the shoulder. The fellowship is staffed by four fellowship-trained shoulder surgeons (Dr. Mozes Gavriel, Dr. Eran Maman, Dr. Ofer Rak, and Dr. Ehud Rath).
Overview
The fellowship is oriented primarily toward clinical work and clinical research in adult shoulder problems in a high-volume tertiary referral center (>700 surgical procedures per year). Training will involve comprehensive exposure to both open and arthroscopic surgical techniques for all types of shoulder disorders. Fellows will also be exposed to a high volume of shoulder arthroplasty cases, both reconstruction and acute shoulder trauma. The Shoulder Service provides care for complex shoulder girdle injuries at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel (a level 1 trauma center).
Didactic conferences and research opportunities
Research, both clinical and basic science, is an integral part of the fellowship experience. Basic science research is conducted through the Orthopedic Research Laboratory under the direction of the Shoulder Unit Director and the Postdoctoral Fellow (Oleg Dolkart, PhD). The fellow will be allocated one research day per week to pursue clinical and basic science work (either independently designed or ongoing projects). The clinical research program includes the active participation of the fellows, residents and therapists working with the Shoulder Service. The fellow will participate in a weekly didactic teaching conference with the Shoulder Service staff. This will involve structured reviews of major textbook and current journal topics. The fellow is expected to participate in clinical research projects and the preparation of scientific publications. Access to animal research, biomechanical testing, and clinical data is available at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and Tel Aviv University.
Call schedule
The fellow will not take call; however s/he is welcome to join the Shoulder Service physicians during call.

The fellow may have the opportunity to visit other shoulder centers in Israel.
