Surgery Division
The Division of Ophthalmology at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center diagnoses and treats the complete spectrum of ophthalmological care, eye disease, and trauma. Quality eye care is offered by accomplished clinicians through outpatient clinics, inpatient hospitalization services, and emergency services.

Ophthalmological services

Through specialty ophthalmology clinics, patients receive world-class care for eye conditions, including:

  • Retina and vitreous humor conditions
  • Cataracts
  • Pediatric eye diseases and strabismus
  • Corneal and anterior chamber disorders
  • Glaucoma
  • Neuro-ophthalmologic disorders 
  • Oculoplastic and orbital conditions
  • Inflammatory eye conditions

Advanced imaging services

The imaging clinic offers specialized diagnostic and testing services, including:

  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT) to obtain detailed images within the retina
  • Ultrasound of the eye to evaluate the eye area, measure size and structure, and detect retina conditions and other problems not diagnosable through routine exams
  • Visual field testing to detect glaucoma, central or peripheral retinal disease, eyelid conditions, and optic nerve disease
  • Eye angiogram to evaluate the blood flow through the vessels in the back of the eye

Inpatient services

Hospitalization services include pre-operative preparation; surgery; post-surgery follow-up; urgent care for conditions needing immediate treatment, such as eye trauma, corneal inflammation and eye infections; and elective surgeries, such as retina or glaucoma procedures.

Emergency care

Ophthalmological services are available 24 hours a day, covering traumatic injuries, severe eye infections, foreign object removal, chemical burns, and sudden loss of vision. Ophthalmologists also offer consultation on medical issues, such as headaches (which may be due to increased intracranial pressure), visual disturbances due to neurological disorders, and facial trauma, including eye socket bone fractures.
