Surgery Division
The General Surgery Division at Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center treats a range of patients requiring surgical services—both emergent and planned. Departmental surgeons offer expertise in general surgery and specialized surgical procedures to local, national, and international patients.

National referral center for complex surgeries

The General Surgery Division is the largest surgical services Division in Israel, and leads the country in a broad range of surgical procedures. Complex surgeries on par with prominent international surgical centers are performed with outstanding success rates. The Division is a national referral center for pancreas, liver, and biliary system surgeries; soft tissue sarcoma surgery; gastric cancer surgery; cytoreduction and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC); isolated limb perfusion (ILP), obesity surgery; esophagectomies; advanced laparoscopic surgery; transplantations; and others.
Surgeries are performed by expert surgeons, trained at leading large U.S. medical centers, with years of specialized experience in treating the conditions and conducting complex operations, such as the ones mentioned above.

World-class post-surgical care

Patients who have undergone surgery recover in post-surgical intensive care, an integral part of the Division, supported by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons and intensivists, physicians with advanced critical care certification. This progressive, integrated approach of combining surgeons and post-operative care provides recovery results that are comparable to those of major surgical centers in Europe and the United States. In order to promote recovery and lighten the healing burden, special emphasis is placed on personal attention to the patient and family.

Breakthrough research and advanced education

The Division is affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. Physicians hold academic positions, teaching medical students and residents, as well as training specialists in various general surgery disciplines.

Division physicians conduct intensive research in general surgery, including clinical, translational, and basic research. Specific research fields include cancer development, progression, and metastasis; angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis (the formation of blood and lymphatic vessels from pre-existing lymphatic vessels); epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT); and cancer diagnosis and treatment.
