Surgeries and services
Specialist pediatric neurosurgeons perform about 350 surgeries and procedures per year. Eighty percent of these procedures are performed on regional and international patients. Surgeries and services include:
- Microsurgery for brain tumors in the cerebellum, cerebrum, and brain stem
- Multidisciplinary service for treating brain and spinal tumors
- Repair and reconstruction of cranial malformations, including Crouzon, Apert, and Saethre-Chotzen syndromes
- Surgical repair of blood vessels and cerebral aneurysms
- Treatment for spinal congenital anomalies, including Arnold Chiari malformation and syringomyelia
- Treatment for hydrocephalus, using neuroendoscopy and other procedures
- Treatment of head injuries
- Treatment for spina bifida
- Neurosurgical treatment of spasticity
- Craniosynostosis treatment
- Treatment of birth defects
- Brain endoscopies for diagnosis and treatment
- Pre-natal counseling
- Multidisciplinary treatment for neuro-cutaneous diseases
Multidisciplinary care
With the mission of caring for the specific needs of children, the Pediatric Neurosurgery Department also operates in partnership with the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center
Neurosurgery Department.
Medical collaboration
As a recognized leader in the pediatric neurosurgery, the department directs and/or participates in a number of multidisciplinary collaborative consultation forums in Israel and internationally, such as:
- Weekly joint staff meetings with the Pediatric Neurology and Pediatric Neuroradiology departments
- Monthly joint discussions on pediatric brain tumors in coordination with the Hemato-oncology Department and the Chaim Sheba Medical Center
- A national prenatal neurosurgery update meeting held monthly in Jerusalem
Leadership in medical education
The department conducts ongoing physician education and supports up-and-coming doctors through physician internship and residency programs, overseas medical residency programs, and medical student instruction. The staff is also actively involved in both national and international laboratory and clinical research.
Clinic operations
The outpatient clinic operates on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Patients are referred to the clinic for diagnosis, pre-admission visits, follow-up, and continuing care after hospitalization. Emergency cases are received immediately.
