Surgeries Performed
Surgeries performed by the department include coronary artery bypass and valve replacement surgeries, surgeries of the great vessels and pulmonary surgeries, radiofrequency ablation, coronary angioplasty, excimer laser angioplasty, percutaneous cardiac catheter intervention, stenting, and bypass surgery.
The department and its surgeons are recognized specialists, using state-of-the-art procedures to attain excellent results. The department is internationally renowned for its enhanced surgical capabilities, including:
- Total arterial coronary bypass surgery for coronary artery diseases
- Coronary artery bypass and valve surgeries, using up-to-date conservative minimally invasive cardiothoracic procedures
- Off-pump coronary artery bypass (without the use of the heart-lung machine)
- Minimally invasive thoracic procedures (without opening the chest), for diseases such as lung cancer
Atherosclerosis, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, cerebrovascular accidents, and heart attacks are successfully managed at Ichilov Hospital through stem cell therapy.
Aortal stenosis and other heart diseases are successfully treated at Ichilov Hospital via open-heart cardiovascular surgeries involving the use of the heart-lung machine or by sophisticated and minimally invasive roentgen-endovascular interventions, which do not require the use of a heart-lung machine and ensure no damage to nerves and muscles.
In order to restore normal blood flow in valve stenosis, the surgeons at Ichilov Hospital perform endovascular aortic valve replacements (balloon valvuloplasty). The worn-out valves are replaced with biological or mechanical prosthetic (artificial) valves.
