Advanced treatment planning
Treatment planning at the Radiology Institute is based on highly accurate data collection. The institute offers the latest CT-simulator. A high-speed multi-slice scanner with excellent imaging enables us to establish the tumor's exact location and the extent of its involvement with nearby organs and tissues. In addition, our state-of-the-art linear accelerator has an improved 3D visualization system, which allows us to simulate the trajectory of each individual beam and provide high precision radiotherapy.
One of the most important features of our state-of-the-art linear accelerator is its computerized data processing system, calculating the distribution of the radiation dose in the tissue of the patient's body using Monte Carlo code. The code's original application was in NASA projects and in nuclear reactors. Today, the code is also used in cancer therapies when performing high precision calculations within the shortest timeframe.
Individual treatment & reduced side effects
In addition to the carefully selected treatment planning systems, which result in a highly accurate radiation therapy, our institute also uses the Varian/BrainLab monitoring and control system for real-time treatment monitoring. This system guarantees that each patient receives therapy based on their individual treatment pattern prescribed by physicians and radiologists.
Our institute was the first in Israel to have mastered the technique of respiratory movement monitoring. This technique is based on the use of two systems: the respiratory synchronization system and the breath-holding system. Synchronization with the patient's breathing results in the most precise radiation beams targeting the specific areas of the tumor, while factoring-in tumor location changes caused by respiratory movements. Such precision allows us to minimize the areas exposed to radiation and significantly reduce side effects.
