Lung cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and one of the leading causes of cancer death worldwide. An estimated 1,000,000 new cases of lung cancer are registered globally each year. Lung Cancer Symptoms
In its early stages, lung cancer typically doesn't cause signs and symptoms. Signs and symptoms of lung cancer typically occur only when the disease is advanced.
Signs and symptoms of lung cancer may include:
- Cough - initially dry, but later becoming productive
- Shortness of breath
- Persistent chest pain
- Streaks of red blood in the sputum (coughing up blood)
- Weight loss
- Weakness, apathy
- Reduced work ability
- Lack of appetite
- Fever without an apparent reason
Lung cancer therapy in our
Oncology Department is highly effective due to the quick and accurate diagnosis, complemented by state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technologies, allowing us to win precious time for the patients.
In our center there are many diagnostic services including:
Positron-Emission Tomography (PET-CT) - helps determine the exact location of the tumor and its boundaries, and assess how far it may have spread.
Lung Biopsy – to ensure the early detection of metastases, a needle biopsy or an open (minimally invasive) lung biopsy can be performed.
Thoracoscope - bronchi and lungs are examined using videothoracoscopy (with a special instrument, called a “thoracoscope”, inserted through a small incision in the chest).
Once the diagnostic process is completed, individualized treatment plans are developed based on your overall health, the type and stage of your cancer, and your preferences. Options typically include one or more treatments, including surgery (such as minimally invasive surgery,
surgery to remove a lung , and operations intended to relieve pain in situations where lung cancer can't be cured), chemotherapy,
radiation therapy, or targeted drug therapy.
