Anesthesia, Pain and Intensive Care Division

The Chronic and Acute Pain Center philosophy is that pain does not have to be a routine part of life; chronic pain can and should be treated. This outlook has been the driving force since the establishment of the Chronic and Acute Pain Department, a pioneer in the field in 1967.

Comprehensive treatment

The department offers comprehensive medical solutions to various types of pain, provided by a multidisciplinary team of experts, with treatments that include: anesthesia, neurological treatment, chiropractics, physical therapy, alternative therapy, psychology and nursing care.

About pain

Studies show that about 20  percent of the population between the ages of 18 and 65 suffer from chronic pain. Of this group, 12 percent suffers from continuous intense pain.

Standard acute pain is mostly a bodily warning sign indicating that something is wrong. Chronic pain, on the other hand, is condition that often extends for a long period of time.
The sensation of pain is different from person to person; it is a complex personal experience influenced by sensations, emotional and social factors, life experiences and the genetic make-up of each individual.

Pain is likely to be caused by bodily injury (bone break or muscle strain), tissue inflammation (such as arthritis), or a medical condition (such as cancer). At times, people can feel pain even when they are not injured or ill.

Regardless of whether a person is experiencing back, neck, or joint pain; headaches, migraines, or menstrual cramps; chronic pain is an illness in itself that demands specialized attention.

In addition to physical suffering, pain can limit work capabilities, lead to depression and, over time, become a problem that impacts a person’s socialization and quality of life.

Broad treatment options

The Pain Center team of chronic and acute pain experts applies a variety of novel treatment options, leveraging advanced pain-relieving therapies, technologies, techniques, and equipment, including:

  • Medications for neutralizing and treating chronic sharp pain, based on personalized treatment plans
  • Complementary treatments, such as medical acupuncture, laser therapy, and electroanalgesia
  • Epidural injections and other injections that treat inflamed nerves and joints
  • X-ray- and ultrasound-guided invasive procedures, such as: nerve neutralizers, denervation, radiofrequency denervation, joint or spinal injections, electrode implants, and drug pump implants
