Physiotherapy Service

The aim of physiotherapy services is to reinstate the level of functioning among patients and improve the quality of their lives so that they can be as independent as possible.

 

The main treatments followed up by the service:

  • Microsurgical procedures
  • Treatment following breast reconstruction
  • Burns
  • Post operative care.

 

The Role of the Physiotherapist in the Department of Plastic Surgery:

During hospitalization

  • Avoiding respiratory complication following surgery. under general anesthetic and after prolonged bed rest
  • Reducing pain
  • Maintaining or increasing range of movement in joints and preventing contracture due to burns, and strengthening of muscles.
  • Counseling patients to become functionally independent through ADL (various positions of lying in bed, getting of the bed, using walking aids, etc.)
  • Treatment and consultation after surgery for breast cancer and breast reconstruction following surgery

Ambulatory Care

  • Physiotherapy treatment following breast reconstruction (in acute and chronic cases).
  • Lymphatic counseling and treatment

 

The physiotherapist in the department is Ms. Ruti Peleg, who is a specialist in treating lymphadema and is head of the lymphadema service at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
