Direecor Dr. Aharon Amir
General Description
The Service for Plastic Surgery of the Head and Neck, opened in 2000, is unique within the services performed by the Department of Plastic treats patients requiring complicated reconstruction in the head and neck region, following tumor excision, injury (trauma) or congenital defect.

The unique reconstruction of the head and neck region requires constant collaboration with the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Neurosurgery, who refer patients.
Complex reconstructive surgery of the head and neck region requires a special approach because of the vital anatomical structures that are densely located in this area. These vital areas, such as the jaws, facial and cranial bones, tongue, pharynx and esophagus, are a reconstructive challenge for doctors, who strive to maintain functional and aesthetical features.
Microscopic reconstruction is the most advanced and complicated method of reconstructive surgery and is performed in Israel at a limited number of few medical centers.
The most common sites requiring reconstructive microsurgery:
- Tongue
- Mucous membranes in the mouth
- Lower jaw bone
- Palate and upper jaw bone
- Cheeks (alone or with jaw bones)
- Cranial base
- Scalp and cranium
Since 2000 more than 200 microsurgical procedures have been performed by the Plastic Surgery service of the Head and Neck, which boasts the most organized, united and experienced team of medical staff in this field in Israel. |
