 Director  Dr. Yaakov (Yaki) Cohen

General Description

The Clinic, in conjunction with a communications therapist from the Hearing and Speech Institute, treats patients suffering from hoarseness, voice disorders and swallowing difficulties.

Staff at the Clinic conducts diagnoses using digital documenting systems that photograph and reconstruct the wave motions (stroboscopy) of the vocal chords and swallowing movements.

Main Fields of Treatment

  • Treating throat afflictions that disturb the production of sound
  • Treating movement disorders of the vocal chords
  • Diagnosis of problems of the vocal chords in people who use their voice in their profession (teachers, lecturers, singers, cantors, etc.)
  • Diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of swallowing difficulties
  • Preparation of patients for endoscopic surgery - Zenker Diverticulum - conducted by Dr. D. Tzik of the ENT Department, and Drs. A. Szald and B. Sagi of the Surgery B Department).

Method of Treatment

After receiving the results of their basic medical examinations, patients are referred for behavioral treatment or speech therapy at the Institute for Hearing and Speech, and/or surgical treatment involving conventional and laser surgery. Modern laser treatment involves a trans-oral approach, through the throat and without a need for a surgical incision. These procedures are used to remove both malignant and benign tumors in their early stages. Also, certain surgical procedures are conducted to preserve voice and/or breathing in cases of vocal chord paralysis.

Special Requirements

Patients are required to submit a financial guarantee for payment from their health fund (Form No. 17) or NIS 176 in cash.
