General Description

The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department - Head and Neck Surgery at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center treats a wide range of patients who need surgical or conservative treatments for the nasal passages, sinuses, ears, mouth, pharynx and throat, head and neck regions and the base of the brain.

The Department is affiliated with the Sackler School of Medicine at the Tel Aviv University and its doctors hold academic positions. The Department runs widespread academic activities, including classes for medical students, interns and specialists in various fields of ENT surgery, intensive research programs in cancer, hearing, genetics, advanced methods of surgery, pediatric diseases and speech-organ diseases.

Doctors in the Department conduct complex surgical procedures to remove benign and malignant growths in the base of the brain, the head, neck and trachea, in addition to reconstructive surgery in these areas in conjunction with the departments of neurosurgery and plastic surgery.   The Department also offers various types of auditory surgery, including procedures to improve hearing, endoscopic surgery of the nose and nasal passages, the upper pharynx, the vocal chords and speech, snoring, reconstruction of the nose, and pediatric surgery.

Departmental clinics deal with diagnosis, advice and treatment of dizziness, auditory damage and a wide variety of ENT diseases in adults and children. Doctors in the Department and Clinics use the most advanced state-of-the-art optical instruments and digital imaging equipment.

There are thirty beds in the ENT department, located in the Arison Hospitalization Tower, and over 1,000 operations are done annually on adults and children, in the department and the day-care units. Patients are treated both on a scheduled and emergency basis.
