In the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, surgery of the aorta is performed in cases of widening of the blood vessels or in cases of dissection of the aorta.  In cases of widening of the ascending aorta, the replacement is performed together with repair or replacement of the aortic valve, depending on its function prior to surgery.

These operations are performed using the most advanced techniques and include use of the heart-lung machine, cooling and cessation of the blood flow, as well as preservation of brain functioning using the antegrade and retrograde method.  We also use the newest techniques of aorta replacement combined with aortic stenting.
