The Dor procedure for left ventricular reconstruction

Advantages:

1.  Improvement of cardiac function.

2.  Improved quality of life.

3.  Improved life expectancy.

What is the Dor procedure?

The Dept. of Cardiothoracic Surgery specializes in special surgical procedures for patients suffering from damaged cardiac function and from cardiac insufficiency.  The variety of operations offered to such patients, according to the basic cause of the disease, is as follows:

1.  Beating heart coronary artery bypass surgery.

2.  Mitral valve repair surgery.

3.  Surgery for repair of left ventricular aneurysm.

Operations for left ventricular aneurysm and reconstruction:

In this operation, performed according to Prof. Dor's method, the area of scarring in the left ventricle is excised and reconstruction of the three-dimensional structure of a normal heart using an elliptic patch from pericardial tissue.  The size of the space is calculated according to the patient's body area and is measured during the operation with the assistance of a balloon that is inserted into the left ventricular space.

Such operations are performed in leading medical centers worldwide and patients demonstrated a significant improvement in their quality of life, improved function as well as an improvement in life expectancy versus a group of patients with similar disease who did not undergo surgery.
