Breastfeeding is the natural, physiological way to nourish a newborn infant. Human milk is specially designed to match the needs of the delicate newborn's immature digestive system, and helps him make the physiological and biological transition from life inside the uterus in the optimal way. For this reason, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life for optimal health and physical and cognitive development.

Lis Maternity hospital has taken the lead among Israeli hospitals by providing a setting where mothers will receive the most up-to-date information and help in breastfeeding. We honor the wishes of every woman who decides to breastfeed her baby by providing breastfeeding classes every morning, and hands-on help when needed during her stay in the hospital. We provide the opportunity for full or partial rooming-in, which gives the mother and baby a chance to get to know each other and learn the art of breastfeeding as soon as possible. Babies need to be with their mother as much as possible in the early days of life to help them get over the shock of birth, and get used to this new world outside of the mother's body. Babies who are with their mothers are calmer, feed better, and even lose less weight than babies who stay in the central nursery.
Even with the best beginning possible, many mothers may have problems when they leave the hospital. Most of these problems are caused by lack of information, not lack of milk. For this reason, we have opened a new service in Lis Hospital in the framework of the New Mothers Club: personalized breastfeeding consultation in our beautiful breastfeeding clinic. In the clinic, mothers will be given help by our certified lactation consultants to deal with the most common breastfeeding problems such as sore nipples, engorgement, and low milk supply. The mother will learn ways to recognize when the baby is feeding well and when he has had enough milk. They will also learn different breastfeeding positions to use in different situations. Mothers of twins or triplets will learn how to manage breastfeeding multiples. We offer workshops for mothers going back to work, covering subjects such as pumping and storing milk, and how to offer a breastfed infant a bottle. It is recommended to come within the first two weeks after birth in order to avoid most common problems.
The clinic is open to all mothers of infants up to one year old, whether or not they were born at Lis.
