Labor and Delivery Suite That Feels Like Home
“There is no place like home!” This is what many young women are saying when they search for a venue for the birth of their babies. Many countries such as England and Holland have made home births the norm for women who are at low risk for complications of labor and delivery, and the trend in Israel is that more and more women are interested in having their babies in the comfort and familiarity of home.
Lis Maternity Hospital in its attempt to help women have the birth experience they are looking for has created a labor and delivery suite which combines the feeling of home delivery with the advantages of proximity to medical facilities if they are needed. Everything you wanted in a home birth is possible in this suite.
What do women want when they choose a home birth?
- to have their loved ones around them
- to be in a pleasant, non-medical environment
- freedom to move around during labor
- to feel free to deliver the baby in any position that they choose
- to be delivered by a midwife who they know, and to have the same midwife with them during the labor and delivery
Before your birth, you will have met with our special team of midwives, all of whom are skilled in assisting you in a totally natural delivery. You will discuss with them what you want in your dream delivery. Familiarity with the midwife and staff reduce the stress that is often typical with arrival at the hospital to have your baby.
The big day finally arrives!! In the hospital you are met by your own private midwife who will be with you the duration of your birth.
YOU enter the special labor and delivery suite which has been designed to make you feel that you are nowhere near a hospital. Soft peaceful colors, homey furniture, and serenity welcome you when you enter the suite.
There is a lovely living room with a comfortable sofa, TV, CD player, and kitchenette for you to spend the first stage of labor with your spouse or family. There is a bedroom with a huge double bed where you can rest with your husband. A deep bath allows you to submerge yourself in warm water when the contractions increase in intensity, a method helpful in coping with stronger contractions. Various other methods of coping with labor in a natural way are available: pillows, ropes, balls, birthing chairs, as well as aromatic oils.
There are no medical instruments or equipment in the room. You may invite whoever you wish to share this experience with you. You might want to bring personal effects from home: pictures, posters, plants, special CD’s which you enjoy.
After the birth, you and your partner will be able to spend the first few hours getting to know your baby, breastfeeding, and bonding before you move into your room in the maternity ward.
