| "... you don't need much to create a happy life. It's all inside you ..."
The staff at the Lis Maternity Hospital allow you to choose the type of birth that is most suited to you.
If you are healthy, and your pregnancy has been normal and routine, you can choose to have a natural birth, without painkillers and with minimal medical intervention.
The Lis Maternity Hospital is open to new and natural approaches, and has established a special unit, that fulfills the requirements of women who want a home birth, while maintaining the highest level of safety, with medical backup on hand.
Delivery suites are equipped with special baths, plastic balls for hip exercises, and cushions for leaning on during contractions and birth. Natural births are available in all the suites and women can choose to receive treatments with aromatic oils, massages, heat therapy, etc.
On arrival at the delivery room, you will be able to choose the natural method of relaxation and pain relief that will allow you to give birth as easily and safely as possible.
The midwives and staff in the delivery rooms will assist and support you throughout the birth. Natural childbirth is part of the services offered in the delivery rooms and is free of charge.
Methods of relaxation and pain relief:
Breathing and Relaxation
The midwife can instruct you regarding correct breathing and relaxation. This will help you raise your energy levels and the level of oxygen in your blood, decrease pain, tiredness and muscle resistance, and speed up labor.
Water Therapy
Reclining in a bath of warm water (up to 37°C) will help relax your muscles and relieve pain. It is recommended that you bring a gown or large towel with you.
Massage
Massage of the lower back relieves severe pain and relaxes muscles (you can also use aromatic oils).
Aromatherapy
The use of aromatic oils during birth, by smell or massage, helps relieve tension, decrease pain and promote birth.
Heat Therapy
The use of warm towels or hot water bottles on the stomach and lower back can also increase relaxation and reduce pain.
Vocalization
Making low sounds and transferring sound from the throat to the lower body also relaxes the pelvic floor and promotes birth.
Other
Preparation of the perineum before birth helps make the surrounding muscles more flexible and can help avoid the need for an episiotomy (cut in the perineum) during birth and/or the risk of tearing. (This preparation is taught during antenatal classes).
During birth the perineum can be massaged with oils or warm compresses before the baby's head crowns, to prevent a cut or deep tear.
It is important to note that the Lis Maternity Hospital works in close cooperation with the Unit of Uro-Gynecology to implement a biofeedback method of strengthening the pelvic floor muscles after birth (vaginal birth). This method involves the use of a special instrument that uses vocal and/or visual signals of the electric activity of the pelvic floor muscles, and allows the woman to identify and control those muscles, thus strengthening them. |
