Collection of Umbilical Blood in the Delivery Room
The Lis Hospital offers two methods of collecting umbilical blood:

  1. National umbilical blood bank - collection is coordinated between the midwife and Magen David Adom (MADA) volunteers and does not require any prior arrangements. This service is available most of the day, depending on the availability of a MADA volunteer, and is free of charge. The blood is kept in a national blood bank and saved there until needed.

  1. Private Collection- collection is organized through one of a number of private companies who specialize in this field.  All arrangements, including payment, are made directly with the company. If needed, the blood collected by the midwife will be used for the woman giving birth.

Taking blood does not cause any pain to the woman giving birth or to her baby.
