The following tips will help you know when to go to the hospital:
- Contractions - regular contractions that gradually get stronger, and recur every few minutes
- Any suspicion of waters breaking
- Reduction of fetal movements
- Bleeding
- Estimated due date (EDD) - at the end of forty weeks
Many times women become confused between real and false contractions.
There are several ways of differentiating between the two types of contractions:
Real contractions:
- Generally regular - become stronger and more frequent
- Lying down does not ease the pain
- The pain start from the back and moves around to the front
- Changes in the cervix: which gets shorter until it opens fully
Fake contractions:
- Generally irregular and do not get stronger
- Lying down might reduce pain
- Felt in the front of the stomach
- No changes in cervix
