Main description
The Unit for CVA = stroke and Cerebral Vascular Diseases (stroke) diagnoses consults and treats patients at high risk for stroke such as patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and other risk factors. The unit treats stroke patients and patients exhibiting early symptoms that require immediate medical consultation including transient neurological deficit such as temporary weakness in a leg or hand, transient speech disturbance or sudden visual disturbance in one eye.
The unit operates a Doppler laboratory featuring modern equipment for noninvasive assessment of blood vessels of the neck and circulation of the brain. This equipment illustrates blood vessel walls and assesses blood flow to locate disturbances that necessitate preventive medical or surgical intervention.
