Main description
The Nephrology Department of Tel Aviv Medial Center treats ambulatory and hospitalized patients suffering from chronic renal failure accompanied by hypertension and disturbances in water, electrolyte and acid-base balance. Treatments with hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and other dialysis methods have been performed on more than 170 patients. The department provides consultation services to all departments of the hospital and performs renal biopsies as needed.

The department includes an outpatient clinic and a day hospitalization unit. The Nephrology and Hypertension Clinic receives patients twice weekly. The specialized day-hospitalization unit for correction of anemia in chronic renal failure (with or without congestive heart failure) meets twice weekly. The department operates a laboratory that performs both routine and special tests before the commencement of dialysis treatment and during the course of treatment. The department also performs urinalysis testing for ambulatory and hospitalized patients.

The department is actively involved in academic medical research that includes student research projects, basic scientific research and clinical trials in molecular biology.
