Surgical Intensive Care - Unit
DirectorDirector: Dr. Oded Szold

Main description
The 10-bed surgical intensive care unit is the first of its kind to be established in Israel. Situated within the surgical department itself there is close cooperation between department and unit staff leading to a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. This approach results in better patient care. The unit is headed by a Board-certified specialist in critical care medicine and a specialized team of nurses. The unit is well equipped enabling sophisticated monitoring, mechanical ventilation, hemodialysis and hemofiltration, and NO administration. Patients are admitted from the emergency room, operating theaters, or from the surgical department itself, These patients usually suffer from either complex multiple trauma or other complex surgical conditions including post-transplant patients. Some 400 patients are treated annually in the unit and since its inauguration in 2001 patient volume has been increasing steadily.
