Lab for Molecular Epidemiology And Antibiotic Research

The Laboratory for Molecular Epidemiology is part of the complex of the Clinical Microbiology Department. Research interests include antibiotic treatment and antibiotic resistance.

The laboratory poses a large collection of clinical isolates.

The laboratory has expertise in molecular typing of bacterial pathogens, genetic analysis of mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, including beta-lactamases, outer membrane proteins and porins.

The laboratory has an animal facility dedicated for working with infectious models in rodents, and experienced with several experimental models used for the development and testing of antimicrobials.

The laboratory is collaborating with several international groups on the study of antibiotic resistance and has ongoing collaboration with pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

The researchers are the recipient of several Israeli and international research grants.

Senior staff includes: Yehuda Carmeli, MD, MPH, yehudac@tasmc.health.gov.il

Shiri Navon-Venezia, PhD, head of the laboratory shiri_nv@tasmc.health.gov.il .
