Clinical Nutrition - Unit
Director      Dr. Nachum Vaisman

Main description
The unit for Clinical Nutrition Diagnoses and treats eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia, weight gain with obsessive eating) in cooperation with the Psychiatric Service and with the Diet and nutritional service of the Tel-Aviv Medical Center. The unit assesses basal metabolism, clarifies integrated biological and psychological factors and offers group therapy.

The unit performs three different examinations to assist in building a balanced, appropriate nutritional program individualized to the patient needs:
  • Body composition to measure percentage of body fat and muscle;
  • Resting basal metabolism rate to measure energy demands at rest;
  • Amount of intracellular and extra cellular fluids.

    The unit also performs bone density testing for osteoporosis using modern imaging equipment. The test is unique as it assesses bone density in the three areas of the body that are most susceptible to fractures.
    Continuing care and follow up are coordinated with the Menopause clinic and with the unit for Metabolic Bone Diseases.
    Comprehensive treatment includes nutritional services and physical therapy (hydrotherapy and group bone building exercise classes).
