The Gastroenterology Laboratory serves the Gastroenterology Institute by performing urgent laboratory tests used to clarify diagnoses.
The laboratory performs various tests to assess problems with the absorpfion of fats and various sugars including lactose intolerance and to identify bacterial overgrowth in the large intestine that causes diarrhea.
The laboratory also conducts breath analysis tests to identify the presence of Helicobactor pyloir in the stomach. This bacteria is largely responsible for most cases of peptic ulcer Effective treatmeat for this bacteria prevents ulcer recurrence for most patients.
