Main description The Pre-natal Diagnosis Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center provides clarification of the genetic background of a suspected genetic disease, pre-delivery diagnosis and the prevention of its recurrence.
The process begins with genetic counseling, collection of vital information, determination of the appropriate tests to be performed and administration of those tests, evaluation and recommendations.
The unit offers genetic counseling for couples on various subjects including genetic screening tests for carriers of the Fragile X Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, Gaucher, Canavan, Blum's Syndrome, Fanconi Anemia, Familial Dysautonomy and others.
Additionally the unit provides genetic counseling for pregnant women including chemical screening tests such as first semester identification of Down's Syndrome, fetal protein test, amniocentesis and testing of the placental base, congenital birth defects diagnosed via ultrasound, exposure to medications, chemicals and other risk factors.
