Overview
The Psychogeriatric Institute of the Tel Aviv Medical Center is comprised of an outpatient clinic and a day center for patients suffering from dementia. The clinic provides multi-disciplinary diagnosis for elderly patients suffering from cognitive and/ or emotional disorders that began in old age. Patients come from all corners of the country, as at present there are no regional barriers for the target population. Treatment includes psychiatric, psychological, and group therapies as determined by the patient’s diagnosis.
The institute operates three specific outpatient clinics:
The Competence Clinic – medical opinions regarding legal guardians for patients suffering from advanced dementia;
The Diagnostic Clinic for mild cognative impairment;
The Clinic for Depression and Anxiety.
The Day Center’s staff of licensed therapists offers activities for Tel-Aviv residents utilizing occupational therapy, sensory stimulation and various types of art therapy such as: drawing, music, movement, ceramics, drama, gardening, nostalgic memories, exercise and other activities. The center provides its patients with breakfast and lunch as well as transportation services to and from the center.
The center has established support groups for the partners of dementia patients of the center itself and in the community at large, support groups for children of dementia patients and for members of the regional Alzheimer’s Association.
