Ambulation Disorders - Clinic
The ability to walk is acquired around the age of one and from this stage, walking becomes one of the most basic skills in the function of a human being. The ability to quickly and efficiently move independently from one place to another is a central condition of normal functioning, both within and outside of the home, in every stage of life and in various functions of life. Disturbances in ambulation, no matter what the underlying cause, significantly disrupt one’s independence and quality of daily life.

There are many various contributing factors of disturbances in ambulation, most of which are relatively easy to identify. Elderly persons frequently suffer from ambulation disturbances that are partially caused by problems with equilibrium and with the fear of falling, which is a central casual factor for loss of independence. Despite the commonality of this occurrence, most of these problems are not treated in a direct and professional manner.

The Institute for Special Examinations (“Melram”), which is adjacent to the Tel Aviv Medical Center, has established a service whose aim is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of people suffering from ambulation disturbances. Because of the complex nature of the problem, we have gathered a multi-disciplinary team of experts that includes a neurologist specialized in ambulation disorders, a physical therapist, a nurse and an occupational therapist, all of whom have unique experience in diagnosing and treating complex ambulatory disorders. We are of the opinion that only a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary assessment of the problem will enable planning and implementing of a suitable treatment and rehabilitation plan.

The services of the clinic are available to all who are interested.
