Main description The Pediatric Neurology Unit of the Dana Children’s Hospital treats infants and children who suffer from delayed development, motor disturbances (cerebral palsy, hypotonus or hypertonus, and clumsy motor coordination,) disturbances in cognitive function, spasms and convulsions resulting from fever, headaches, learning disorders, concentration and behavioral problems, suspected tumors in the brain and central nervous system, follow-up after head injuries and infections, metabolic disorders and communication disorders.
The unit operates four outpatient clinics: one for the treatment of neuromuscular diseases, the second for the treatment of neuro-cutaneous diseases, the third for the treatment of epilepsy resistant to medical treatment, and the forth for the treatment of cerebral palsy with injections of botulism toxin. These patients are referred to the department, as needed, after general assessment for surgical intervention of epilepsy and/or for implantation of an electrode to stimulate the vagal nerve (in cooperation with the Neurosurgery Department.)
