The Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory |

The Gait laboratory is used to measure and study human motion with
the aid of sophisticated computerized equipment. A report consisting
of a series of graphs, charts and video pictures is produced which
enables the physicians to better understand the exact nature of the problems in children with walking and motion disorders. Thus suitable treatment can be planned and a patient's progress across a period of time can be followed.
These are the tests that are performed in the lab:
Physical examination
Kinematics
Kinetics
Force measurements
Electromyography
Videography
Foot pressure measurement
Oxygen consumption
Walking is a complicated series of motions. Studying walking is
difficult to do by just watching or by physical examination alone. This is especially true in children who have neuromuscular impairments such as cerebral palsy.
The gait and motion analysis laboratory provides a scientific,
quantitative measurement of motion and gait. These measurements are reproducible and can easily be compared to normal data or to previous tests of the same patient.
The gait lab is also a very powerful research tool.
