| The institute for male fertility operates an andrology laboratory that performs
Sperm analysis
Preparation of sperm for intrauterine insemination
Cryopreservation of sperm samples and testicular tissue.
Other test performed at the laboratory includes: sperm penetration of cervical mucus, zona pellucida attachment, ejaculate content and cultures, anti-sperm antibodies, genetic analysis for Y chromosome deletions.
The lab undergoes international quality surveillance by the UKNEQAS Andrology Scheme, based in the UK. Practices are standardized according to the WHO recommendations.
The institute also operates a licensed sperm bank with a double monitoring system.
The sperm bank includes:
Sperm donor samples - for women requiring donor insemination
Cryopreservation bank - for men undergoing radiation or drug treatment, whose sperm may be impaired, and for collection of sperm found in testicular biopsies.
Cryopreserved sperm may be used as necessary by intrauterine insemination or IVF, as dictated by female fertility issues and sperm quality. |
