Director Prof. Yuval Yaron
General Description
The Unit for Genetic Prenatal Diagnosis at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center investigates the genetic background of a disease, finds ways of performing prenatal diagnosis, and prevents recurrent cases.
The process begins with genetic counseling, during which doctors collect vital information that helps them determine the types of tests to be conducted, and ends with the tests themselves, analysis and recommendations.
The Unit offers genetic counseling to couples on various topics, including genetic testing for fragile-X, cystic fibrosis, Gauche's Syndrome, Canavan Disease, Bloom's Syndrome, and Fanconi's Syndrome.
In addition, the Unit offers genetic testing to pregnant women, including first trimester testing for Down's Syndrome, amniocentesis and chorionvillus sampling, counseling for genetic disorders that have been diagnosed by ultrasound, and those caused by exposure to medications and pollutants.
