Main description The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center treats a variety of surgical conditions.
The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery - Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center treats more than 7000 patients yearly in the outpatient clinic. The unit performs more than 1500 surgeries yearly of which more than 300 are performed under general anesthesia in the operating room and the rest under local anesthesia in the outpatient clinic. .
The medical staff includes five senior physicians, two medical residents and 6 volunteers. The nursing staff is comprised of one head nurse and four dental assistants.

- Facial Trauma - The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center cares for facial injuries by repairing routine and complex facial skin lacerations (cuts), setting fractured jaw and facial bones, and treating other injuries. These procedures include care of oral tissues, the jaws, cheek, and eye sockets.
- Pathologic Conditions - The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center manages patients with benign and malignant cysts and tumors of the oral and facial regions. Severe infections of the oral cavity, jaws, and neck are also treated.
- Facial Pain Including Temporomandibular Joint Disorders - The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center possesses skills in the diagnosis and treatment of facial pain disorders including those due to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems.
- Correction of Dentofacial (Bite) Deformities and Birth Defects - The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center, usually in conjunction with an orthodontist, surgically reconstructs and realigns the upper and lower jaws into proper dental and facial relationships to provide improved biting function and facial appearance. The unit also surgically corrects birth defects of the face.
- Removal of Diseased and Impacted Teeth, and Anesthesia - The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center removes impacted, damaged, and non-restorable teeth. Safe, and effective anesthesia services including intravenous (IV) sedation and general anesthesia are provided by the Sourasky Tel Aviv Medical Center.
- Dental Implants - The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of the Tel Aviv Medical Center, in close collaboration with restorative dentists, helps plan and then place implants used to replace missing teeth. The unit can also reconstruct bone in places needing bone for implant placement and modify gingival (gum) tissue surrounding implants when necessary to make teeth placed on implants look even more natural.
