Main description
The General Rehabilitation Department of the Tel Aviv Medical Center treats patients who require rehabilitation after hospitalization. The department treats a wide variety of rehabilitation needs:
  • Orthopedic rehabilitation after motor vehicle accidents, fractures, joint prosthesis implantation and other orthopedic operations;
  • Neurological rehabilitation after injuries to the central nervous system, such as cerebral vascular accident (stroke,) multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, neuropathies, and rehabilitation after injuries and surgery to the peripheral and central nervous system;
  • Rheumatologic rehabilitation for inflammatory and degenerative joint diseases;
  • Oncological rehabilitation for complications affecting the locomotor system;
  • Rehabilitation after limb amputation including preparation for prosthesic fitting;
  • Rehabilitation of back pain, including diagnosis of causative factors and treatment of osteoporotic fractures;
  • Rehabilitation of pain syndromes resulting from various causes;
  • Rehabilitation of diabetic patients suffering from foot complications;
  • Rehabilitation of decubitus ulcers (bed sores) and ulcers resulting from vascular disorders;
  • Rehabilitation of the neurogenic bladder.

The department also operates the Electro-diagnosis Institute that performs examinations including PNC, SEP, NCT, and EMG and provides electro-diagnostic monitoring during surgery.

Patients hospitalized in the Rehabilitation Department receive multi-disciplinary services, such as: the Physical Therapy Institute that houses a heated treatment pool; the Occupational Therapy Institute; psychological rehabilitation services for the patient and family; social worker services to support the patient and family in establishing a connection with the community.

The department has 24 beds. The medical staff is comprised of three specialized physicians and three resident physicians. The nursing staff is comprised of a head nurse, assistant head nurses, registered nurses and auxiliary staff.
